These maps show the locations of 743 migrant deaths along the California border since 1995, when Operation Gatekeeper was launched. As each new phase of Gatekeeper was implemented, the deaths soared and shifted east, into the mountains and deserts. The western Arizona deaths are included because the Border Patrol's Yuma sector is officially part of Operation Gatekeeper.
